Flooring School: Applications Open Until October 1, 2024
Applications for Layer Group’s Flooring School are now open and will be accepted until October 1, 2024. The initiative has garnered excitement and positive feedback within the industry, as it addresses the high demand and shortage of qualified floor layers. Combining practical experience with theoretical education, participants have the opportunity to become certified floor layers with professional credentials. Additionally, the training is paid, making it an attractive opportunity for many.
Patrik Ronkainen, Head of Education at Layer Group and the main coordinator of the Flooring School project, emphasizes the need for new pathways to ensure the growth of skilled trades: “To ensure the sustainability of skilled trades, especially in tiling and flooring, we need to find new ways. Schools offer programs for carpentry and painting but lack the equivalent support for tiling and flooring. Adapting the education involves significant costs, which leads many schools to avoid offering programs in trades with fewer applicants. The Flooring School serves the entire community by providing paid training for the unemployed or those looking to change careers. We have a workforce in Sweden, and we must utilize it.”

Ann-Helén Ljungberg, HR and Communications Director at Layer Group, highlights the importance of the project: “This is a crucial initiative. We want to give those without industry experience a chance to develop in a practical trade with us. We know that both we and the industry need this, and in this way, we take responsibility for developing the sector. The project is progressing as planned, and we are approaching the selection process, which will take place in October. This is a perfect opportunity for those wanting to step into a stable and in-demand professional role.” Ann-Helén will be involved in the selection process, with significant input from the local CEO.

The Flooring School offers paid training where participants learn everything from basics to advanced techniques under the guidance of experienced floor layers. Upon completing the training, participants secure stable employment and opportunities for advancement within the construction sector. The training consists of both theoretical and practical parts, with the theoretical portion conducted alongside the practical work. The introductory week includes a joint course for all participants, followed by company introduction and practical work at their respective workplaces.
To apply, you must be at least 18 years old, have good knowledge of Swedish, and hold a manual transmission driver’s license. Applications are received and reviewed on an ongoing basis, and those who advance in the selection process will be invited to an interview with the local company where they will potentially be employed and complete their training.
